LINDSTROM, JR. (President and CEO)
In 1996 Walter became the first person to establish a national advocacy practice devoted to helping patients and health care providers fight for access to all forms of bariatric surgery denied by insurance payers. He is a patient, 20+ years post-op, and his first bariatric appeal was his own RNY gastric bypass! Now he is internationally recognized as an expert in patient advocacy, bariatric insurance coverage, healthcare reimbursement and professional liability. He has been an Associate Member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
(www.asmbs.org) since 1996 and is active in its Insurance and Access To Care Committees. He is frequently invited to be a faculty member, Course Director or invited speaker at ASMBS events and is sought as a consultant by numerous bariatric programs, medical device companies and other reimbursement consultants. He is published in several medical journals and is widely quoted by media ranging from “Good Morning America” and the Wall Street Journal to “People Magazine” and McCall’s on issues ranging from obesity discrimination to bariatric surgery reimbursement, malpractice, and practice management.
He has served on the ASMBS Foundation Board of Directors and in 2003 he was recognized with the prestigious ASMBS Integrated Health section’s “Circle Of Excellence” award. He served on the Board of Directors for the Obesity Action Coalition (www.obesityaction.org) from 2010-2013 and was active on its Weight Bias and Advocacy Committees. Walter graduated Cum Laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in December 1986. He received his undergraduate degree in both Philosophy and History from Loyola Marymount University in 1981, again with Cum Laude honors.
BROWN LINDSTROM (Vice President and CFO)
Kelley is, and always has been, the “heart and soul” of Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. She is an amazingly passionate and compassionate advocate whose pleasant personality hides a toughness that comes out when dealing with the most problematic insurance payers. She proves every day that “nice” doesn’t equal being a pushover. Kelley’s primary responsibilities revolve around daily contact with clients and prospective clients, health care providers and insurance companies helping them through the complex appeals and independent review process. She has developed and nurtured relationships with appeals personnel for major insurers all across the country and uses those relationships to be certain clients of the firm are getting their best opportunity to access the care they need and want. Admitted to practice law in California in 1990 after graduating from the University of San Diego School of Law, Kelley developed a broad-based litigation practice before formally joining the firm in 2000.
LUQUIN (Patient Advocate)
Tenacious and methodical. Linda possesses both in abundance! If you have ever tried calling “Customer Service” for your insurance company you know that most of the time they are not interested in their customers, nor in providing service. Linda is uniquely suited to handle the pressure of following up with insurance plans and other entities involved in the appeal process because her background experience is working with children. Prior to joining LOA in 2011 Linda was with a local school district for 7 years facilitating before and after school childcare program. She was also the Owner of an early childhood educational preschool. Being around kids (and adults behaving like children) has certainly prepared her to be the best at following up with insurance personnel, although she misses the maturity of pre-school kids compared to an insurance plan’s customer service folks.

From the time Walter and Brenda first started working together, “a long time ago in a law firm far, far away…”, Brenda has been supporting both Walter and Kelley. Starting with the opening of “The Obesity Law & Advocacy Center” up to today, Brenda provides superior administrative support and unmatched organizational skills. As a client progresses through the appeal process, Brenda is behind the scenes, helping to ensure the road to approval is as smooth as possible. Whether it is getting the right form signed and submitted or helping create / streamline LOA’s “Best Practices,” Walter and Kelley have always relied on Brenda to help them stay on the right road.
